I think you're wrong though, because the first post was an introduction, and plus, I start counting with zero (seriously). So that was post zero and this is post two.
"Wait, wait, ZERO IS NOT A NUMBER."
Duh. But still, before you have any quantity, it's zero. Zero is like a base or starting point. For instance, if I'm doing image modifications I work in steps in case I don't like how it turns out; the unaltered one would be like "picture0" and then after that it'd be "picture1" and then "picture2" and so on until I'm done.
Anyway, now that that's taken care of, here we are. Post number one.
I think I will begin with
Paul's Superawesome List of Crazy Stuff on the Internet Part One!
I think I'll do three categories to divide them more specifically.
Just Plain Cool/Weird/Dumb Websites
www.hamsterrepublic.com
This is the website of this crazy guy James Paige. There are crazy games, crazy short stories, crazy randomly generated Bob The Hamster quotes, and a bunch of other crazy stuff. There's even an easy-to use program that lets you make your own crazy turn-based-combat RPG things. It's pretty cool.
www.fredthemonkey.com
www.cubetoons.com
The webtoon and webcomic (respectively) of this mysterious JKR figure. The former has been compared to Homestar Runner sooo many times, but, really, they're completely different... The website has a very similar form, but the humor is completely different.
"Hey, I thought I put a cake in the oven!"
"Uh, yeah, about that... I kind of... ate that cake."
"But I just put that in there like five minutes ago!! You ATE a HALF-BAKED cake??!!"
"OK, so technically I drank it, but it's still gone."
"Oh well, I still have an extra box of cake mix."
"No you don't..."
"What do you mean?"
"Well, see, after I drank the oven cake, my mouth was on fire, so I had to eat the other one to put it out."
"WHAT?!"
"I think I liked the liquid version better though."
Anyway, Fred The Monkey is just a silly cartoon thing, and Cubetoons is a videogame-related comic strip thing JKR does for IGN (a video game / movie / comic book site that has news and reviews and stuff), it's quite funny, but a lot of it is industry joke stuff a many of you might not even get... oh well.
www.paperrobots1999.com
Seth discovered this somewhere, and it's a pretty cool website that has, well, paper robots. You can print them off and make them with just some glue and rubber bands.
I mean, seriously, they're robots. And they're made out of paper. So they're pretty cool.
www.willitblend.com
By far the funniest video website containing a collection of videos to advertise a kitchen appliance I've ever seen. OK, so it's also the only one, but I like to think that's entirely irrelevant. Anyway, basically, this guy sticks dumb stuff in a blender just to show you how powerful it is.
"Bad guy smoke... don't breathe this!"
In-Browser Games
www.battleon.com
www.dragonfable.com
www.mechquest.com
These are all Flash RPGs made by Artix Entertainment. They're pretty fun, and they're loaded with this ridiculously idiotic sense of humor.
www.superflashbros.net
Tons of great games, videos, etc. in Flash. If you've heard of James the Zebra or the Decline of Video Gaming, these are the people that made those plus a whole bunch of other crazy stuff.
www.eyezmaze.com
More Flash stuff. These are all puzzle and logic sort of games; they're really interesting.
Game Downloads
(most of these are for Windows, Linux, and Macintosh, but not all of them...)
home.no.net/egoboo
Egoboo really deserves more than just a small mention here, because I'm thinking I may be mentioning it quite a bit in the future. I'll get to that in a moment, then.
www.nethack.org
This game... it has everything.
Except sound.
And graphics.
Yes, that's completely possible. Go play it, now. If you don't play it, you're a total loser. If you do play it, you will almost certainly become addicted and become a complete nerd in minutes.
In other words, you just can't win. At all. It's very hard to describe Nethack in a short little summary like this, so I think it may be better to just look it up and read many of the numerous longer descriptions that exist all over the Internet.
www.westoth.org
This is a great turn-based strategy game. It has multiple campaigns as well as online, networked, and hotseat multiplayer. It's also fairly easy to make your own stuff for it if you're up to that.
www.s2games.com/savage
Savage is a supercool online game that used to be commercial. They released it as freeware to advertise their sequel, which looks like it's going to be really cool and is only thirty bucks (they're selling it on their site to avoid retailer markups).
Savage can be either an RTS or an FPSish action game; there's a commander who, well, commands everyone, and then there are soldiers on the field. It's a unique concept that works really well.
www.aaronbishopgames.com
Aaron Bishop, the guy who made Egoboo, released another game after it called Soulfu. You may argue that it's a billion times better than Egoboo, but I completely disagree. Yes, it has cool cel-chaded graphics, yes, it has a better menu system. But it has way less potential; it's already a complete game and doesn't leave all that much room for expansion. Also, they really are two completely different games. That said, Soulfu really is a cool game (it's a dungeon-crawling action-RPG), and you should definitely check it out.
www.miraigamer.net/cavestory
Doukutsu Monogatari, or Cave Story, is a platform shooter / adventure game I only just recently learned about. It was made entirely by one person (it took him five years though)! He's actually Japanese, but the game has been translated into English so everyone can enjoy it. It's really nifty and reminds me of all those awesome old NES games. It has 8-bit graphics (I am one of those few people who actually know what they're talking about when they say eight bits; trust me, it's eight bits) and goofy sound that seems decades old, but at the same time it's artistically and musically wonderful. It also has a really neat plotline and amazing gameplay; you'd think at first you were playing a game that was way older than it is, but most people would probably realize that the nice physics and general length and complication probably couldn't have been achieved back then.
www.yoyogames.com
This really could have fit under any of the other categories, since it's really all three. These are games made with Game Maker (unfortunately, right now, all of this is only for Windows), which you can download there, too. Game Maker is a great program; if you're interested in programing this would be a nice introduction for you, or if you have no interest in programming but really want to make games, this would be nice for you, too. I think I fall somewhere in between there, really...
Well, now for the next section (I really don't know if posts will be this long in the future), being a list of my current projects. I'm sure a few of you, at least, are wondering what sort of junk I'm up to these days, so I'll try to tell you.
1999
This is a top-down airplane dogfight shooter thing; it's just a fun little project I'm working on. This is made with Game Maker 7, so it'll be Windows-only when it's done, sorry.
Anyway, this game should be pretty neat; I'm going to make it have a ton of different planes to use (I already have loads of sprites done), and when you destroy the other player's plane, I have these great recordings of Adam saying "SPECTACLES!", "SPAMTASTIC!", and "EGG-SALAD!" that play. It's pretty much hilarious (I'll explain this someday, but probably not until the game's release, though I have no idea when that will be or if it will happen).
This is mostly multiplayer-focused, but I can't do online stuff, so it'd just have to be two people at the same computer. I'm going to give it a nice mode for one player, too, though.
Fafnir-Cola
This is sort of a strategy/puzzle game where you control a bunch of goofy viking guys as they try to escape from prison and find the real culprit in the crime they were wrongly accused of committing (stealing Thor's favorite caffeinated drink). You control your characters one at a time, and you have to use them all to get to your goal. Sometimes you'll need to have one hold down a button while another one goes through a door that stays open only when the button is pushed down, or have one jump on another's head to get to jump up to a place neither could reach alone, or just have them team up and defeat enemies.
It's sort of an ongoing project; I want to make the game really long, so I don't want to rush it.
Egoboo
Egoboo is the one project on this list that isn't completely mine. It was made, originally, by Aaron Bishop, but then he just went "OK, I'm done" (the fact that he even got that far on his own impresses me) and it sort of died. After that, it was taken up by a project that called itself the "Zippy-Egoboo Project." I discovered Egoboo sort of near the end of Zippy's life, and soon after it totally died. But then this guy Zefz started it up again, and now it's alive and kicking once again. This game is really nifty; it's a dungeon-crawling action-RPG type thingamabob, and it has a fun visual style and a really weird sense of humor. It's not a complete game, but it's definitely at a state where you can play and enjoy it. I'm thinking in another couple of years, it'll be totally done.
Anyway, I can't program or anything, but I have been able to help out with this project quite a bit; I've made a Hobgoblin and Vampyre character class that haven't made it into the game yet (they need starter modules; you'll know what those are if you play the game), but I've also made some cool particle effects and various other little things like changing the Paladin textures that have actually made it into the game already.
So, yeah, Egoboo is a great game; whether you think you can do something for it, or if you just want to mess around with it on your own, or if you just want to play the game, it's great.
Well, I think that's enough for today.
