The World Ends With Me? ...And some stuff regarding GTA4.

Why haven't I posted in the last few days? Hmm.
I actually don't have a whole lot to talk about.

Oh yeah, I figured I'd say something about Grand Theft Auto IV.
Specifically, for those of you who have it (granted, not necessarily my normal audience), why on earth are you playing it?!
Before I start I should note that no, I have not played the game. But I know enough (and it doesn't take much to be enough, really) to be writing about it.

So. Biggest arguments I've heard (or not really heard, since I don't do a lot of that anymore; more like read) for playing the game, followed by my responses:

1. It's just simulation. It's not like I'm actually being a nasty, sick, vile criminal who is completely corrupt in every way.
Yes, but why would you want to even simulate being a nasty, sick, vile criminal who is completely corrupt in every way? If you find that kind of thing fun, well fine.
But I can't imagine why anyone with any kind of moral standard would spend their time doing something so ridiculous.

2. It's no worse than the previous installments.
Irrelevant. I'm pretty much speaking out against the series as a whole. It's just that GTA4 was just released, giving me an opportunity to do so.

3. You don't have to be evil. You can do whatever you want.
Yes, but lets face it, the game allows you to be evil, and it even rewards you for breaking the law. It's the point of the game. And I'm not sure why you would pay money for a game, and then only play a small fraction of what there is. Seems boring, and dumb, to me.

4. The game is technically amazing.
I. Don't. Care. It might be true, but that just makes it more sick. And the fact that so many people play it disturbs me. It should disturb you, too.

In conclusion... I don't know. I think number one is the big one. Why waste your time on a game like that just because it's such a "good game?" Just because it was put together well doesn't really mean much. To me, it's automatically awful because of how sick it is.
Like I said, anyone with any kind of moral standard should stay far, far away from this game. If you're enjoying "virtually" breaking from your moral standard, well... it probably wasn't a very strong one and you should seriously reconsider it, as well as your life in general.

Well, I've said my thing. Probably won't bring it up again in the future, as I don't really think I have much else to say on the matter.

In other news, I just got The World Ends With You (it sounds like a sort of morbid title, but, interestingly, it was actually called It's a Wonderful World in Japan, but they had to change it over here due to copyright issues) for my DS. You may have gathered that from the title if you have heard of the game. And yes, I'm sure that's been done before. Many, many times. Almost as much as "Wii" puns. Well, maybe not THAT much....
For those of you who don't know, it's an action-RPG developed by "Jupiter Team" (comprised of veteran designers who worked on the Kingdom Hearts series and suchlike) and published by Square Enix. Now, I'm calling it an action-RPG, and that's what it calls itself, too.
But it completely breaks all molds, standards, and traditions. With its head. Twice. In midair.
The big difference you'll notice right away is that it doesn't take place in a traditional medieval fantasy setting. Instead, it's set in modern-day Shibuya (a district in Tokyo, Japan).
It has a weird, science-fiction-ish plot that sort of takes some getting used to.
You're taking part in this "Game," and you have seven days (not seven days in real life, mind; you can take as long as you want) to complete various objectives, which usually involve the destruction of "Noise." Noise looks sort of like animals, but with weird tribal tattoo things comprising prominent features (usually whatever they use to attack). They (it?) flock(s?) toward strife and discord, so if you see people who are upset or arguing, there's usually a lot of Noise near them.
The game uses a really weird battle system for when you fight Noise. You actually are in control of two characters at once (one on each screen). I would try to explain, but it wouldn't really do it justice. I think you just have to see it... and even then, it'd be hard to understand.

I could spend a lot of time describing the game in more detail, but I don't really feel like it right now (plus, it's pretty late).
It'd probably be best to just go to this page and find out more.

I think that's it for tonight. Maybe I'll have another post for you tomorrow?
